PROJECT LIFE WEEK 12

Am caught up now going strong with Week 12, and yes, Week 9 will be out on this blog soon. *keep on reading downwards as I have something exciting going on there*

This week was a very colourful week as my photos were really colourful too, being in the city of Bangkok for most of the week, so I went a little colourful with my paper selection and I really like this week. In addition,I have an insert (something that I truly thought that I might never need), due to the number of photos that I took that I really want to document.

Here is the left side with the insert. I did photographed it this way as I thought it would be easier to read and see.

All sorts of fun stuff that I used here, including some of the products in my etsy store and my "hot-at-the-moment" doily punch. Funny how we take many many many more photos when we are overseas. But I think along the process I've learnt to cut down on the multiple photos that I take as I have no patience to look through all of them.

The American Craft thickers are finicky and so I sticked them down and ran the sewing machine through them for good measure, of course I like that look too. For some variety, I used yellow thread for the first time over the BKK words. Am still madly in love with the polka dot vellum and just want to continue to find new ways to use it.

And on to the right side,

Used a bunch of my favourite things, including the Dear Lizzy Camera stamp, Stepping Stone Alpha, Vintage Doily martha steward punch, Papertrey Ink Doily, my own printable journaling cards, manila shipping tag and labels, any many labels.

Spot the instgram stamp mark there. Yes I tried my own hand at designing my own after seeing Kelly Purkey show hers off. So this is my own interpretation for an instagram stamp. Given how much we use instagram in this day and age, I forsee myself using it more and not just on my Project Life pages.

I have some favourite pockets that I really liked from this week and want to just share some of them and some of the things that I did with them.

I am totally on board the chevron craze as you can tell and a doily one too (: And I loved using one of the camera flair button that I designed that can be found here, as a part of a set of six.
And the photo is a common sight that is seen in Bangkok all the time.

Added a bit of personalisation with a stamp on the top border of the 3x4 card, as well as punch outs from the Vintage Doily punches. The patterned papers came with the label printed on it, perfect for little bits of journaling.

More use of the yellow thread, love the effect even though I'm lazy to change out the thread from time to time.

Wanted to save this napkin that I bought at Chatuchak because of the pretty patterns on it. In order not to "damage" the napkin I put the descriptive label on the plastic pocket.

Used my Polaroid journaling cards, found here, in this pocket. Like how it gives a pop of colour to the pocket (:

Now for another little announcement, as I alluded to in my previous post(s) and as some of you have guessed, I plan on making some stamps in gorgeous red rubber with wooden handles, mainly for my own use but I'll be offering them in my store. Those are the designs that I have for this first go around and I can't wait to use the ones that I haven't made a testing mold of yet, especially on my Project Life.

OF VINYL AND WASHI TAPE

No Project Life spread yet for me :(  Have been too busy this week and hoping to catch up with it for the weekend.

Just wanted to share a mini project that I did with my silhouette SD.

I designed the placement of the words and then cut them out on Vinyl. This is good stuff, as it is thin, which doesn't add bulk to the notebook. The other good thing is that if this were cut out on paper or cardstock, it would be difficult to ensure that the placement of the words remain the same, as transfer paper is used.

These were made for friends, but I will be putting some up in my etsy store if anyone is interested.
So as everyone knows, CHA Winter 2012 was the CHA of Washi tape or paper tape. Having a sizeable collection, storage is an issue. And the phrase out of sight out of mind is very applicable. So I sought a solution.

While in my search, etsy had some gorgeous ones, but it was out of my price range, especially factoring in shipping from the US. Enter a great place to find things that you never thought that you would need here in Singapore - Daiso. And the absolute best part is that it is just $2.

This is originally a dish/plate holder - imagine dishes slotted in between every two 'poles'. Once I saw it, thinking that it was indeed similar to what I had spotted on etsy, albeit shorter, I knew that it would work.

On average each 'pole' can take four tapes, depending on the thickness. As the rolls from Amercian Crafts and Hambly seem to be smaller in diameter, this made it fit perfectly with my bigger size MT ones. And you can classify them to dots, stripes, themed or mix them all up (:

 So now it will sit on my desk as a gentle reminder to be used, and yet not rolling about the place in a container. And it is easy to move around if needed too. And you can personalise it by painting the wood or decorating it with Washi tape (:

PROJECT LIFE WEEK 4

Hi everyone, it's nearing the end of the 15 days of the Lunar New Year and during this time there has been loads of feasting and visiting of relatives.

Well Week 4 was the start of it, so much of it was included in the album, as was more food pictures as I caught up with old acquaintances. Here it is:

I continued in my experimentation of different page protectors, with Design F being the new "victim". Design F is good for lots of photos which was perfect for this week, where I had the most number of photos yet. For now I still prefer the Design A protectors, though I do like how the Design F ones challenged me creatively.

As there were many photos this week, I chose to use labels to do the journaling on the photos. After this, I have a huge huge huge obsession with labels, with my current favourites being October Afternoon and Jenni Bowlin at the moment. I have yet to find more, though the new Martha Stewart ones for Staples are too die for. But until a kind soul decides to send me some, I'll have to drool over the internet.

I pulled out my old Studio Calico Wooden Veneer butterflies that I have been hoarding but relax for now as they have been re released with the CHA Winter 2012, though a little different in shape. I used my Tim Holtz tiny attacher and fixed in to my page.

My typewriter also made an appearance as I ran some labels through it. Love the look.

On the top left, you see something we term as "steamboat" where food of all varieties is thrown into a boiling pot of chicken stock and cooked, before everyone hauls them out to eat. As I had a blank space this week, I took a quote, re typed it up and printed it out. (idea from elise blaha).

For those who are wondering the journaling card above is a free printable that I have in my shop for free download. Do check the other Project Life related goodies that I have there too.

I used the same butterfly, but used my sewing machine to stitch through the wooden veneer. Love how that looks.

With another blank slot, I created my own embellished grid card, using much from the Girl's Paperie line, with the indication of a month stitched on. The 'celebrate' embellishment seemed appropriate as it is a festive season.

PROJECT LIFE WEEK 1

Th buzz about project life has been off the charts from what I can tell from my twitter feed and the number of people who are doing it seems to keep growing. Hopefully this creates more buzz and momentum to keep on going. And if you are interested I have a journaling printable freebie here. Please scroll down to the bottom of that page to find it. 

So here it is Week 1, over two pages. I think I surprised myself by being able to fill in two whole pages. A large part though because I love to write, and write away I did as evidenced by my journaling spots

WHY DO YOU SCRAP?

The scrapping world is often filled with children, documenting their everyday life and milestones. Seldom are they about the person scrapping, and of course there are the exceptions, but more often than not, it is dominated by children and families.

This brings me to why I engage in it. I don't have children that I want to document my life for or their life for them. But I scrap for me. To me, it is a journal of my life and my own memories, for no one but myself. I enjoy pulling out my books and flipping through them and remembering the past memories. This is mainly because I like to put my layouts in albums the minute I'm done with them.

They either go in the 12x12 album or clear frames where I can look at them longer, but never just left there. This is for practical reasons as I scrap memories and don't want them damaged, which they might if I leave them out. I put them in, sometimes moving them around (but that is for another blog post).

The key thing for me was to have a place to store the many photos that are taken. In this digital age, we snap many photos but we do not look often at them. I am a big offender as I often go for trips, take loads of photos but struggle even to load them to my computer. Even when I do, it sits there, as I loathe photo editing. (perhaps this should be my resolution for 2012 to organise my photos better) And I never ever look at them.

Since scrapbooking, I at least have images printed out and ready to see by just pulling out my album and viewing them. A little disclaimer here, this my be just me. Images are powerful and now at least I have them in tactile form, ready to evoke memories that I have squirrelled away in a corner of my mind.

Of course the pretty paper and embellishments are a big draw and I do get the satisfaction from playing with pretty things. I occasionally do pages that are simply just to get a creative fix, but most of the time it is to document something. The exception is when I share creations for other people, because it really would be weird to be journalling on their pages.

Long post, but just some thoughts I have had. And because as much as it is about documentation, we all do still like pretty things, here's a layout made with Crate Paper:
