PROJECT LIFE WEEK 4

Hi everyone, it's nearing the end of the 15 days of the Lunar New Year and during this time there has been loads of feasting and visiting of relatives.

Well Week 4 was the start of it, so much of it was included in the album, as was more food pictures as I caught up with old acquaintances. Here it is:

I continued in my experimentation of different page protectors, with Design F being the new "victim". Design F is good for lots of photos which was perfect for this week, where I had the most number of photos yet. For now I still prefer the Design A protectors, though I do like how the Design F ones challenged me creatively.

As there were many photos this week, I chose to use labels to do the journaling on the photos. After this, I have a huge huge huge obsession with labels, with my current favourites being October Afternoon and Jenni Bowlin at the moment. I have yet to find more, though the new Martha Stewart ones for Staples are too die for. But until a kind soul decides to send me some, I'll have to drool over the internet.

I pulled out my old Studio Calico Wooden Veneer butterflies that I have been hoarding but relax for now as they have been re released with the CHA Winter 2012, though a little different in shape. I used my Tim Holtz tiny attacher and fixed in to my page.

My typewriter also made an appearance as I ran some labels through it. Love the look.

On the top left, you see something we term as "steamboat" where food of all varieties is thrown into a boiling pot of chicken stock and cooked, before everyone hauls them out to eat. As I had a blank space this week, I took a quote, re typed it up and printed it out. (idea from elise blaha).

For those who are wondering the journaling card above is a free printable that I have in my shop for free download. Do check the other Project Life related goodies that I have there too.

I used the same butterfly, but used my sewing machine to stitch through the wooden veneer. Love how that looks.

With another blank slot, I created my own embellished grid card, using much from the Girl's Paperie line, with the indication of a month stitched on. The 'celebrate' embellishment seemed appropriate as it is a festive season.

DELIGHT IN THE LITTLE THINGS

A layout that I created recently using the Studio Calico Kit County Fair and Ring Toss Add-on

Supplies in Studio Calico Kit from: Crate Paper, Basic Grey, Jenni Bowlin, Pebbles. American Crafts

I started by stamping the circle stamp on the cardstock slightly off-centre. As the circle is already sectioned off, it helped to know how to best draw the starburst. I used a ruler to draw on the patterned paper, to indicate where to cut to make the pattern, purposefully leaving some blanks to add visual interest.

After layering the papers, I stitched them down with the sewing machine to add some texture to the layout. And then scattered some embellishments around. This is when using a kit comes in really helpful as there are coordinated papers which are not too matchy matchy yet look like they come from the same set.

Most stitching generally to add texture to the layout.

Hope that this layout has "scattered some sunshine" to you as you view it today.

PROJECT LIFE WEEK 3

Hi I'm back to posting after the festive break which some part of should make an appearance in my Project Life pages next week. But I'm here today to share week 3 of my Project Life.

This week involved alot of good food and good company, hence appropriately, the quote from Julia Child that says, "People who love to eat are the BEST people".

I tried mixing it up this week with Project Life Design D page protecters. Was a slight struggle but it all worked out. Now to try out more variations of the protectors.

Random things from the week: I saw this cool origami looking rabbits that were going to be thrown away. Mind you that they were made out of wood. It was the last week for the Chinese Zodiac Rabbit year. Watched a play too during the week. Best cheddar cheese biscuits ever from Marks & Spencers.

For those of you who go to Kelly Purkey's blog, you know that she has raved about this place that sells Japanese ramen, called Ippudo. Well I'm proud to say that other than the many many outlets in Japan, the one in New York City, in Singapore, we are privileged to have not one but TWO Ippudos which sell the best ramen soup ever. The bowl on the right is my favourite with Pork Tonkatsu soup. Oh and other than that, currently those are the only places which have Ippudo, so perhaps you should make a trip to Singapore.

I decided to include a card with the significant meet-ups in the spread. I used one of my journaling cards for sale as a printable from my shop (click here) as well as the days of the week stickers in the Clemetine Edition of Project Life.

Another place to eat at in Singapore, in my opinion, is Food for Thought, love the food there. The quote in the top centre is placed prominently in the restaurant.

In the bottom left is an "ang pow" or red packet which we use here in Singapore during the Chinese New Year to bless the younger generation. The packets are usually filled with a sum of cash. This one made it in as it was the prettiest red packet that I've ever seen, with a really cool texture.

The flair buttons are perfect for this to add interest to a page. They can be found [here] or [here]

Hope that you are perservering to your own personal take on Project Life and do share the link to your pages in the comments if you have any. I would love to swing by and take a look.

On the subject of Project Life, I have just some new memo cards in the shop for journaling purposes to share.

The cards come as a set of six journaling cards, 3.88inches x 2.88inches as well as two label cards, that are slightly smaller. The folder that will be sent to you once you purchase the set will contain the JPG and PNG files for each individual journaling card and a PDF as pictured below so you can just print immediately. IN HEELS

Happy Hump Day of the week everyone!

Have a quick layout to share and let you know more about the details of the project, and lastly my process

Firstly the layout
Supplies: Studio Calico Snow Cone add-on, Martha Stewart, Jenni Bowlin, Crate paper, American Crafts

I used a starburst stamp (Studio Calico Kit exclusive) and stamped with Versamark. I then used the pink glitter embossing powder from American Crafts. If you need sparkle, I'll recommend using the glitter embossing powders as they do not flake off at all once they are heat set.

Stitched through the Thickers. Helps them stay in place as well as adds dimension to it.

Just got the Jenni Bowlin Grandma Doily's punch. Perfect for making cute punch outs. Also stitched underneath my journaling, love the texture.

Ran my page through the layout machine to add lines to the butterflies.

MY PROCESS | I had decided to make a page with the butterflies swirling about the place. First I decided to establish my background. Instead of a piece of patterned paper, I decided to use my starburst stamp. I then sketched out the path I wanted the butterflies to go.

After punching through a lot of butterflies, I placed them along the path. Of course, being flexible, or what some would call fickle, I did move it quite a bit from the inital path. I stuck the butterflies down with a teensy bit of tape, as I knew that I wanted to run stitching through it and did not want to gunk up my needle.

Next I added strips of paper to anchor the page further, before adding two hearts, one of them is two hearts layered on top of one another. I ran stitching through them too.

I then added the border scalloped strips and stickers, as well as a doily and I was done.

Thanks for looking!

Just also wanted to add that I have some new badges available in the shop

I can't wait to use these on my pages and Project Life next week, especially the adore set.

PROJECT LIFE WEEK 2

****winner of my badges giveaway is posted below as well as a new journaling freebie****

Hi all, I'm finished with Week 2 (Jan 9 to Jan 15) and ready to share. The light was finally better and it was brighter earlier than usual, so I've better photos of the spread to share this week (:

For those wondering, I run my weeks Monday to Sunday, because my calendars all state a week's progression as such.

After I completed it, I realised that it was really pink, but figured out that it's fine since the Lunar New Year is approaching. It was a week full of events, mostly captured by my iPhone. I really need to whip out my regular camera more.

Another thing, which I believe is not going to go away soon, my Project Life is going to be full of food shots. Heh. What a way to remember the year, through food of all things.

Here's the Left side close up

A couple of important things also occured this week, which I included in my PL.
The truce between the Myanmar government and the Karen people is something close to my heart, as I had done my university Final Year Project on the refugees of the 60 year long war and had some deep interviews with people on the scene. I'm glad that this has come to pass, hopefully that it lasts and is not just a smokescreen.

One of the things I want to try to do is include a photo of me in some form at least once a month, mostly as I don't really take photos of myself. The card is a freebie that I have available in the shop for download. Love how it frames my instagram print out nicely, with space for journaling.

On to the right side
I went a bit crazy here with the stitching, but I just love the look and homespun feeling that it gives. I find the small squares easy to work with as bits of paper or tape can easily dress up a page.
I am fairly certain that you would see doilies turn up on my Project Life every once in a while. This one was left over from a layout that I was doing and will be sharing soon. I think this one doily got used by me on three different project/pages, so good on me for stretching my supplies. Additional dimension was added with the details button, part of my "Words" set available in the shop.
I think I will hardly ever fear that I will not have enough to fill in my spread in Project Life, though I highly doubt I will put inserts unless I go overseas. (In fact now as I am writing about week 2 I realised that there is another event that occured and didn't include, having wanted to do so when it happened. But I will not be hung up on missing it out). The two journaling cards are part of my "Heart" set in the shop.

One last thing, I have another freebie printable journaling download for everyone.

Doily and label journaling cards with a graph background. (I prefer keeping all links on a single page, so sorry for the bit of hassle)

THE DAILY GRIND

Winner of the giveaway will be posted tomorrow.

Well, Project Life Week 2 is under way on my table, but non-available light and lack of time is hindering its progress, but spur on I will.

In the meantime I have a layout to share:

Supplies: Silhouette, Studio Calico, American Crafts, Ocotber Afternoon, Crate Paper

Scrapbooking is in the end about documenting the ordinary life that passes me by. The reason for scrapping this was as I never imagined myself working at the heart of the business district in Singapore (its the equivalent of Wall Street in New York), with the sun setting by the time I leave the office.

The typewriter detail is one that I had been hoarding for the perfect layout, due to my work as a journalist. The newsprint scraps from Studio Calico was also fantastic to add to the details for my work.

My silhouette was also put to good use with the background polka dots cut out with a kraft on kraft feel as well as to cut out the title.

Just to let everyone know too, there has been an update in the shop, with some more items.

I have used them in my PL week 2 layout which I'll post later in the week. Do check it out if you like them and they help in the documentation of daily life, not just PL. Thanks for your support! I'm having a blast with this creative process.

I'll be back with a printable freebie when I post about Project Life again.

PROJECT LIFE WEEK 1

Th buzz about project life has been off the charts from what I can tell from my twitter feed and the number of people who are doing it seems to keep growing. Hopefully this creates more buzz and momentum to keep on going. And if you are interested I have a journaling printable freebie here. Please scroll down to the bottom of that page to find it.

So here it is Week 1, over two pages. I think I surprised myself by being able to fill in two whole pages. A large part though because I love to write, and write away I did as evidenced by my journaling spots

On the left and close up
Lots of handwritten journaling and some appropriate stitching, given I was writing about my sewing machine

Right and close up

I used some of the badges that I had created. I especially like the "Snapshots of life" one on a grid background.

And I have a freebie to share with everyone, who is interested that is. I was tinkering around with photoshop and created a journaling card with grid background. I used it in my Week 1 documentation as seen above.

A set of three cards with the phrases; In a nutshell, Remember this, This happened
If you are interested, click here or on the picture to download.

I also created this set with the cameras that I had on my badges, with the same grid background

The set has the different weekdays at the bottom as well as the phrases: captured; smile; today.
This printable set is available for purchase here, or in the store.

Thank you for your support and I hope that you have enjoyed what you see here! Let me know if you used the freebie and how you like it too.
